Tasker: Find a Phone using Bluetooth
Getting Started with Android Automation, Part 2
An easy but useful Tasker recipe that locates an Android phone by causing it to emit an audible beep when it connects or disconnects to a paired Bluetooth device. Although this article is a standalone piece, it can be read as a continuation of Getting Started with Android Automation Using Tasker.
The Problem
A Spigen Tough Armor case does an excellent job of protecting my Galaxy S7. The Tough Armor is advertised as U.S. military-grade drop protection. I can believe it. My four-year-old S7 is in great shape. One problem. With its muted colors — gunmetal and black — the case is hard to see. Together with a black phone, it blends into dark backgrounds, disappearing against darker surfaces such as my sofa. Sometimes, I wonder if the case has military-grade camouflage in addition to drop protection!
Tasker to the Rescue
An easy Tasker recipe can find my hidden phone when it connects or disconnects to the Bose portable speaker it is paired with. With this recipe, the phone now gives an audible beep when it connects or disconnects to the speaker, making it easy to find if it is hiding on a dark surface or in the pocket of a jacket. This recipe can save minutes of time in these situations.
